Every year when December rolls around and the days get shorter and the nights get colder, I whip out my favorite mulled wine recipe. Mulled Wine is a crowd pleaser, and really easy to make. I especially love it because it simultaneously gets everyone tipsy while tricking your friends into thinking you are fancier and more sophisticated than perhaps you are.
I also think it’s a must if you’re hosting any holiday events because it fills your home with the smell of Christmas cheer rather than the Christmas cookies you might’ve burn earlier when you were too distracted sampling the mulled wine…
Here’s what you’ll need:
2 oranges, sliced
1 cup of sugar
1 cup of water
1 teaspoon of cloves
2 teaspoons of cinnamon
2-5 cinnamon sticks for garnish
2 bottles of red wine (I recommend Merlot)
Optional ¼ a cup of Orange Liquor if you’re feeling risqué
-In a pot combine the sliced oranges, sugar, spices and water.
-Slowly bring to boil. Let slimmer for about 15 minutes
-reduce heat and add wine
-slowly reheat but DO NOT boil!
-Garnish with an orange slice and a cinnamon stick and serve in mugs!
