The Gayborhood is one of my favorite areas in Philly. From the murals to the people to the shopping to the food, everything is wonderful! Since June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month I am recommending my favorite restaurants in the Gayborhood. Increasing business and supporting LGBTQ+ businesses is one of the best ways to celebrate!
Barbuzzo: If you’ve read any of the articles on this site, it’s pretty obvious that I’m obsessed with Barbuzzo. This trendy Italian restaurant is so freaking delicious I can’t stand it!!! The fresh pasta dishes and pizza go beyond traditional Italian and make it a bit fancier so you don’t feel so bad about carboloading.
Bud & Marilyn’s: Also owned by the women of Barbuzzo, this restaurant reimagines traditional American food and makes it 100x better. Anything you could ever think of is on this menu, and it is all delicious.
Charlie was a sinner: I was forced to come here with my class and professor for happy hour (which I was not happy about). But, after having a few of their delicious cocktails and vegan appetizers, I was really happy! I love this tiny place it is one of the best vegan restaurants I’ve ever been to!
El Vez: When you’re vegetarian, eating at Mexican restaurants can be tricky. However, El Vez has plenty of vegetarian options that are actually SO GOOD. Sometimes, restaurants substitute meat with crappy vegetables, but El Vez makes the veggies shine in their dishes.
Green Eggs Café: Situated right outside one of my favorite murals is this MEGA popular brunch spot. Seriously, it’s always packed. The wait is justified once you have their pancakes and French toast though!
Big Gay Ice Cream: This isn’t necessarily in the Gayborhood, but the name says it all! Big Gay is my favorite ice cream place of all time because of their classic vanilla soft serve. Even though I’m lame and only get vanilla with rainbow sprinkles, their menu is full of creative flavors like their horchata ice cream covered in Cheeto dust! I also love sitting and enjoying my cone inside because they play amazing music and have massive paintings of the Golden Girls.
Sweet Box Bakery: This bakery is filled with amazing pastries and desserts. They have cupcakes, edible cookie dough, and seasonal treats like their special cookie bar. For someone who doesn’t eat a lot of sweets, I could come here every day!
